Director of Youth Services/Assistant Library Director (Posted 10/20/16)
The Paola Free Library is currently accepting applications for a full time Director of Youth
Services/Assistant Library Director. The City of Paola is located 18 miles south of Olathe,
Kansas and the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area. The library serves a combined city
and rural population of 10,000. Attendance at the children’s programs averages 30 a week
during the school year. An average of 400 youth enroll in our Summer Reading Program,
during which there is extensive programming.
This position will also work closely with the Library Director in supervising staff and providing
services to all ages.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicant must possess minimum of a bachelor’s degree and one
year’s experience in working with an organized children’s program. MLS or School Media
Certificate holders may substitute their practicum for the experience requisite.
The applicant should have a talent for and enjoy working with children, preschool through young
adult. Applicant should have a broad exposure to and knowledge of all types of literature with
emphasis being on children’s literature for preschool through young adults. A passion for library
services and programming is a must.
The applicant must have the ability to maintain effective relationships with the general public,
must be proficient in personal computers and other social media devices, and possess an interest
in and willingness to learn emerging media technologies. Applicants must pass a pre-employment
physical, background check and drug screen.
Hourly Wage DOQ and will not be less than $13.00. Attractive benefit package. Full job description
