Volunteer Firefighter (Posted 12/29/14)

The City of Paola has one position open for Volunteer Firefighter. This position will answer to the administrative supervision of higher level staff. This position responds to fire alarms, hazardous materials, incidents, urban rescue and other calls to protect life and property; to participate in fire prevention and training; and maintain the station and firefighting equipment.

Minimum requirements:
• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral direction and safety practices.
• Must live within one (1) mile of the Paola Fire District.
• Valid Kansas driver’s license.
• Basic CPR certificate.
• Firefighter 1 & 2 certification or ability to acquire within 1 year.
• Pre-employment drug screening required.
• Must pass criminal background check.

Assistant Librarian (Posted 01/26/15)

The Paola Free Library is accepting applications for a part time Assistant Librarian who will be responsible for all activities related to the circulation of library materials.  This will include notifications of all overdue materials.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a high school degree or GED equivalent
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, e-mail, and Internet searching
  • Knowledge of additional computer applications is desirable
  • High degree of organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with the general public
  • Must pass background check, physical and drug screen

This position will work a total of 28 hours per week which will include some evenings and weekends.

Lifeguards
Training is provided. Strong swimmers preferred. Must be at least 16 years old by May 15, 2015.

Concession Stand and Admissions
Friendly, helpful staff wanted.  Cash handling skills required.  Must be at least 15 years old by May 15, 2015.

Police Officer  (Posted 02/23/2015)

The Paola Police Department is soliciting highly motivated individuals for the full-time position of police officer.  The City of Paola is located 18 miles south of Olathe, Kansas and the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.  The Paola Police Department consists of 16 sworn officers and 6 civilian employees as well as its own communications center.  Those selected to fill open positions will be enforcing local, state, and federal laws, as well as investigating crimes, enforcing traffic regulations, investigating traffic accidents, assisting the public, and serving a department that takes pride in serving its community. State Certified Officers are preferred, but Police Academy training will be provided. 

Type:
Full Time.

Salary:
Starting salary for certified officers is 35,360 to $38,860, per year, depending on qualifications.  Other benefits include sick, vacation, and personal leave, furnished uniforms and equipment, health, dental, life insurance plans and KP&F retirement.

Minimum Requirements: 
 Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, good physical condition, no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions or domestic violence convictions, must possess a high school or GED diploma, and must be a US citizen.  Must be able to pass a written and oral board examination, drug screen, physical fitness, physical exam, and psychological exam. Certified Law Enforcement applicants must not have any Brady/Giglio material in background to be eligible for hiring. Candidate must reside within a 30 minute response time within 6 months of hire.

Minimum requirements:

•At least one year as an entry level laborer.
•Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions and safety practices;
•Ability to operate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment and hand power equipment.
•Possession of a valid Class B CDL driver’s license or ability to attain.
•Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
•Must pass pre-employment drug screen
•Must pass criminal background check
