Police Chief 
Police Chief Dave Smail has over 35 years of law enforcement experience and has been the Chief in Paola since 1988. Chief Smail also serves as the head of the City's Emergency Preparedness Team.

Responsibilities
The Police Chief's responsibilities include the planning and directing the activities of the Police Department. He is responsible for the enforcement of laws and ordinances and the protection of life and property in the City of Paola. The police chief holds an important administrative post involving immediate responsibility for the development and administration of a

complete program of public law enforcement. This position has internal control in the administration of the department and responsibility for the supervision of all department personnel, as well as managing the departments’ budget. 

Deputy Police Chief
Deputy Police Chief Don Poore has served in law enforcement since 1977. He began his law enforcement career as a correctional officer at the Louisiana State Prison at Angola, Louisiana. Through his career, Deputy Chief Poore has held the positions of patrol officer, field training officer, detective, and K-9 officer. Since being with the Paola Police Department, he has held the positions of patrolman, detective, sergeant, and lieutenant. He has served as Deputy Police Chief since 2001.

Deputy Police Chief Don Poore
The Deputy Chief’s responsibilities include the investigation of citizen and internal complaints, search and apply for grants for the police department, perform potential police department employee background checks, supervise and oversee the operations of the police department’s detention center, as well as assist in the day to day operations of the department.
